HAMMOND—Less than six months after construction began, Tangipahoa Parish officials announced today that the Vinyard Road bridge over Skulls Creek north of Hammond has been completed and the roadway is officially reopened.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said the Vinyard Road bridge officially reopened at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The roadway had been closed since April 15 to completely replace the bridge.

“This is very good news for our residents who use that high-traffic roadway,” Miller said, offering his appreciation to the contractor “who did an excellent job of keeping this contract on schedule in spite of some weather-related issues.”

District 8 Parish Councilman David Vial said the bridge reopened slightly ahead of forecast, and he, too, offered appreciation for the swift and thorough work by the contractor. Vial reminds motorists that the speed limit on Vinyard Road was recently lowered to 35 miles an hour, a move that residents asked the council to consider because of the high volume of traffic that traditionally travels that route.
