Two arrested in Thursday afternoon shooting

May 29, 2020, City of Hammond, LA – On May 28, 2020, at approximately 4:15 pm, the Hammond Police Department responded to a report of a male suffering from a gunshot wound at NBT Tire Service Center, located at 1100 North Morrison Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to his abdomen in the lobby of NTB. While rendering aid to the victim, he was able to identify the shooter by nickname stating, “Nino shot me,” and that the shooting had occurred in the Soap Opera Square parking lot, located at 1001 North Morrison Boulevard.
HPD Detectives learned that “Nino” and “Keke” had gotten into an altercation with the victim after exiting Kingz Luxury Barber Shop, located at 1001 North Morrison Boulevard. Detectives knew both suspects to be Martayna “Nino” Jackson, 29 years old of Tickfaw, and Markesha ”Keke” Baker, 30 years old of Hammond. They located and arrested Baker, who was inside the barber shop. Jackson was taken into custody at a residence. The victim was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service where he is recovering after surgery.
Jackson is charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Obstruction of Justice, and Possession of Marijuana. Baker is charged with Principal to Attempted Second Degree Murder.
