On Monday morning, Dec. 22, 2014 at approximately 8 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L stopped a Ford truck for a traffic violation on Interstate 12, near mile marker 40 in Tangipahoa Parish.

As a result of this traffic stop, a Texas man was arrested for transporting illegal narcotics from Texas to Atlanta, reports M/T Greg Marchand of the Louisiana State Police.

Troopers initially stopped the Ford, operated by Matthew Llanas, age 37, after he committed a traffic violation. But during the course of the investigation, a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 was requested and alerted to the vehicle.

A search was conducted by Troopers, which revealed approximately 200 pounds of marijuana with an approximate street value of $200,000.00.

Llanas was booked in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite for the traffic violation and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

This arrest serves as a reminder to all citizens and visitors of Louisiana that Louisiana State Troopers will continue to provide safe communities through proactive enforcement. Troopers will target drug trafficking organizations by enforcing all state laws.
