The couple that flies together, stays together!

So, how does a couple technically past retirement age (but still running one of the longest-serving tire companies on the Northshore) celebrate the New Year? They fly warplanes of course!

Don't we all?

A big shout out from Action News 17 this evening to George & Jo Ann Malnar of Malnar Tire Mart in Tickfaw, who have once again braved the striking blue skies above Kissimmee, Fla. to soar high in the P-51 Mustang warplanes of Stallion 51 Flight Operations.

The Mustang is beloved by the tire man simply known as "Mr. George" who has collected models, movies and literature of the P-51 since childhood, and enjoys flying his personal favorite warbird poetically christened, the "Crazy Horse."

The Crazy Horse runs neck-and-neck to a photo finish with his other favored Mustang-- the Ford.

Malnar will turn an energetic 75 in the coming year, while Mrs. Malnar will turn a spry 73.

Mrs. Malnar was wide awake by 5 a.m. in the Sunshine State on Monday morning, and couldn't wait to get started.

"Sixty-three degrees, clear skies, going to be a good day in Kissimmee. The horses will be running well," Mrs. Malnar said.

"The horses will be waiting," soon replied another pilot, Syd Jones.

Stallion 51 was quick to let their followers at Facebook know that the Malnars were on their 13th flight with the Operation and still going strong.

Reports Stallion 51, "George and Jo Malnar are at Stallion 51 today for their annual formation flight with us in our dual cockpit-dual control Mustangs. It just would not be the holidays without them! Great way to end one year and start a new one!"

Mrs. Malnar's youngest brother, Dale Allen Mulkey, Sr. of Mandeville and a retired Louisiana Air Guardsman himself, kept up to the minute with their progress.

"Saw the video on Facebook, great job!" said baby brother Mulkey.

Of note, Mrs. Malnar adds that she and & Mr. George (both of whom are lifelong residents of Tickfaw) have been married "Fifty-two great years."

The couple will celebrate 53 great years in February.

Check out some of the great photos below, shared with Action News 17 by some very happy Malnars! And visit on the web, or their Facebook page for more updates, photos and videos at
