From the State Fire Marshal

ST. TAMMANY PARISH--- An additional suspect has been arrested for a break-in and fire at a trailer in the Abita Springs area during the spring.

John Hallenbeck, 48, was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on Wednesday, August 28, on one count each of Simple Arson and Simple Burglary. Hallenbeck is also being held as a fugitive from other jurisdictions for outstanding warrants with at least three other agencies.

Jason Jarrell, 41, was booked last week on one count each of Simple Arson and Simple Burglary.

In the afternoon hours of March 13, 2019, St. Tammany Fire District #8 requested the assistance of the State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) to assist in determining the origin and cause of a trailer fire located in the 74000 block of Allen Road in the Abita Springs area.

After an assessment of the scene, two areas of origin were identified and the fire was determined to have been intentionally set.

Through ongoing investigative efforts, including evidence testing, Jarrell was identified as a suspect in the case and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

Following Jarrell being taken into custody by SFM deputies, he admitted to breaking into the trailer and setting it on fire. Jarrell also implicated Hallenbeck as an accomplice in the crime.

After a follow-up investigation into Hallenbeck, a warrant was obtained for his arrest. A week-long search resulted in SFM deputies locating Hallenbeck in New Orleans Wednesday, August 28, and he was taken into custody.
