St. Tammany Fishing Pier To Reopen after LDH Announces Testing Shows Decreased Toxin Levels from Algae Bloom

The St. Tammany Fishing Pier, located at 54001 E. Howze Beach Rd. near Slidell, will reopen tomorrow (Saturday, August 31, 2019) after the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) announced that recent tests from the waters of Lake Pontchartrain show that the toxin produced by the blue-green algae, is below the limit recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

However, the LDH continues to recommend that people and pets avoid any waters that have visible algae growth. Should the algae bloom return, Parish Officials will adhere to LDH recommendations and follow EPA guidelines.

The pier will be open from 7am to 6pm, daily.
