SLU's Veal named to NABC First Team All-District
HAMMOND, La. – Southeastern Louisiana’s Marlain Veal was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches first-team All-District 23, announced Friday.

Veal, the first-team All-Southland selection, led the Lions (17-16, 12-6 Southland) in assists (148), steals (58), three-pointers (70), free throws made (190), and was second in scoring (15.9 ppg).

The senior is the second leading scoring in program history (1,666 points). The New Orleans, Louisiana native is also the all-time leader in games played (132), assists (595) and steals (220) and third in free throws (451).

The Helen Cox grad also recorded the first triple-double for SLU since March 3, 2006 (Ricky Woods at Lamar). Veal scored 24 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out 10 assists in a 69-57 win over Stetson Nov. 17.

Veal finished the season in the top ten in the Southland in assists (5th), steals (5th), free-throw percentage (6th), scoring (7th) and three-point percentage (8th).

Joining Veal on the first-team were Northwestern State’s Ishmael Lane, Stephen F. Austin’s Shannon Bogues and Kevon Harris and Sam Houston State’s Josh Delaney.

Abilene Christian (27-7, 14-4 Southland) head coach Joe Golding was named District 23 Coach of the Year after guiding his team to the Southland Tournament Championship. ACU lost to Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday.
