FRANKLINTON—Senator Beth Mizell (R-Franklinton) will be seeking re-election this fall.

Mizell was first elected to the State Senate in 2015, and she is completing her first term.

“It has been my honor to serve District 12 in the State Senate for the past four years,” Mizell said. “I am pleased at many of our accomplishments for the citizens here, but there is still plenty of work to do.”

Among the accomplishments she lists: Mizell acquired funding this year to begin building State Highway 3241, which will connect St. Tammany Parish to Washington Parish. She says she ended the wasteful Washington Parish Reservoir Commission and reallocated the remaining $700,000 to improvements at Bogue Chitto State Park. She formed a Broadband Task Force in the Senate to eliminate obstacles to providing broadband to rural Louisiana communities.

Mizell aslo authored important legislation in 2017 requiring minors to show proof of ID before receiving an abortion. This past session, she carrie the landmark Love Life Amendment on the Senate Floor to its final passage and signage by Governor Edwards.

Mizell chaired the committee to Bring the Wall to Our Veterans, which facilitated the traveling Vietnam Wall to visit Franklinton in 2018.

“I feel like in my first term I have been able to fight against wasteful spending, increased taxes, and big government action while still achieving much-needed accomplishments for District 12,” Mizell said. “I look forward to a second term where we can do even more for our community, especially with rural access to broadband Internet."

The election will be held on Oct. 12, coinciding with the Louisiana gubernatorial election.

District 12 encompasses all of Washington Parish and significant portions of Tangipahoa and St. Tammany Parishes.
