ROSELAND---When First Lady Melania Trump welcomes guests to the 141st annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House this Monday, a piece of Tangipahoa Parish will be featured prominently right there on the South Lawn, thanks to some creative students at Roseland Montessori School.

At the invitation of the State Department of Education, Roseland Montessori School students have spent the last several weeks designing Louisiana’s official egg which will be on display during this event which dates back to 1878 during President Rutherford B. Hayes’ administration.

RMS Montessori Specialist Kay Saragusa said every student on campus has taken some part in the process of designing the egg, which depicts what makes Louisiana unique.

“Every class participated. Everyone at Roseland works so hard and we work together as one team,” Saragusa said.

RMS tapped their first 1st place state BETA portrait artist Laney Saragusa to pull all of the design elements together and sketch the egg. The final product includes traditional Louisiana state symbols layered with images particularly associated with south Louisiana and a little school pride. Pastel Mardi Gras beads flow from a Magnolia crown atop the egg, draping down to the pinchers of two fiery crawfish lining either edge of the egg. The crawfish tails fan down into a masquerade mask at the bottom of the egg which is adorned with flour de lis embellishments up top and a golden brown pelican crafted across the Roseland “Royals” blue colored map of the state on the egg’s surface.

Tangi Graphics of Amite helped format the design and prepare it for production.

“I am so proud of Roseland Montessori!” Kay Saragusa said, adding that everyone is so excited to be part of this incredible event.
