Qualifying opens Tuesday for fall election ballot

AMITE---Qualifying for the October 12 primary election begins on Tuesday.

Tangipahoa Parish Clerk of Court Gary Stanga said his office will be working to register candidates starting on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and continuing through Thursday, Aug. 8. Qualifying is from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day, and candidates are directed to go to the Clerk’s Office inside the Amite Courthouse to file their paperwork.

Among the parish wide offices appearing on the fall ballot are:
*State Senator
*State Representative
*Sheriff
*Clerk of Court
*Coroner
*Parish President
*Parish Council
*Assessor
*Judge, 21st JDC Division D

Candidates for Ponchatoula and Independence municipal offices will also qualify at this time.

Candidates must pay a qualifying fee or present a nominating petition to file for the fall ballot. Details on qualifying fees and other necessary paperwork can be found on the Clerk of Court website, at http://www.tangiclerk.org/Elections/Current-Election-News.
