AMITE—The Tangipahoa Parish Council on Monday night announced the location of a plastic manufacturer coming to the Tickfaw area.

MKS Plastics, Inc., will hire approximately 20 new permanent employees and invest $2.5 million in the first phase of their plant, which will be located on 70 acres just off U.S. 51 near Bonfiglio Road north of Tickfaw.

Tangipahoa Economic Development Director Stacey Neal said the project will be eligible for the state’s industrial tax abatement program, as well.

Councilman Carlo Bruno, in whose district the project will be located, authored the motion Monday night to grant the project an Enterprise Zone endorsement. Bruno said that the plant will manufacture plastic drums and containers that will be used in the oil industry. He said it is his understanding that the start-up has already made several successful inquiries and will be able to pick up several jobs in the area as soon as it is operational.

In other business, the council also granted an enterprise zone application for Auto Title Services, LLC, which will invest $75,000 in new equipment and create six new jobs in the Hammond area. The business, owned by Barbara Tallo-Farkas, will take over operations of Hammond’s Office of Motor Vehicles after the first of the year.
