Paine wins Independence Mayor's race; takes office in July

Independence voters will have a new mayor.

Alderman Jim Paine defeated incumbent Mayor Angelo Mannino for a term that will not begin until July 1, 2020.

Paine had 54 percent of the vote to Mannino's 46 percent.

In complete but unofficial returns, the town also elected a new Board of Aldermen:

Independence Alderman (5 to be elected):
Calvin Batiste (D)--14 percent
Larry Cardaronella (D)--14 percent
Ogdon Carter (D)--6 percent
Eric Costa (R)--15 percent
Jimmy W. Gregory II (NP)--13 percent
Paul J. Liuzza, Sr. (R)--12 percent
“Mike” Muscarello (D)--11 percent
Luciano “Luke” Suarez, IV --15 percent
