One arrest, two more to follow, after shooting near Slidell

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s detectives have arrested one individual and issued warrants for the arrests of two more in a shooting that occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Dec. 20 near Slidell.

Willie Cooper (DOB 2/20/1982) of the 500 block of Beechwood Drive in Slidell, and Cedric Cooper (DOB 2/13/1995) and of the same address, went to the Browns Village Road area with the intention of robbing Gary Lee (DOB 8/26/1991) whose residence was located at the 30 block of Sammy Holt Road in Slidell, during a drug transaction.

During the process of the attempted armed robbery, Willie Cooper and Lee got into a shootout. Both men sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to their torso areas. Lee was transported to Ochsner Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital. Willie Cooper was located after Slidell Memorial Hospital reported he had shown up there with a gunshot wound.

Cedric Cooper was arrested Dec. 23 on a warrant for Attempted Armed Robbery. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.

Upon his release from the hospital, Willie Cooper will be arrested on the following charges:

Attempted Armed Robbery
Attempted Armed Robbery w/ Firearm (enhanced penalty)
Aggravated Second Degree Battery
Carrying of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon


Upon his release from the hospital, Gary Lee will be arrested on the following charges:

Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of Firearm w/ CDS
Possession of Schedule II (Hydrocodone)
