Merlyn Harley Wells, Sr.

Merlyn, age 85, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. He was an active member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School. Merlyn was a US Army Veteran. After retiring from LSU Research Station, he volunteered at the Collinswood Museum in Ponchatoula. He was an avid LSU fan and enjoyed all sports. Merlyn enjoyed being outdoors and working in his garden. He loved fishing with his family and no matter where he went, he never met a stranger. Merlyn was a good Christian man and always put his family first. He was a loving husband, adoring father, and one of a kind Paw Paw who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Hoover Wells; sons, Merlyn ‘Lyn’ Jr. (Mary), Billy D. Wells (Christine); daughters, Sheryl Stafford (Sammy), Terry Jo Cutrer (Wade), and Christy Wells; grandchildren, Keri Lyn Persaud, Benjamin Myles Wells, and Amber Effler, Kaci Freeman, Lauren, Rachel, Bryce, and Heidi Wells; and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Vivienne, and Lochlan Persaud, Brayden and R J Liuzza, Amerie Freeman, and Abigail Effler.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Mildred Wells; grandson, Shelby Stafford; and siblings, Jeanne McLin and Marvin Wells.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson, Ponchatoula, on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Wanda Smith will officiate and interment will follow in Sandhill Cemetery.
