Alicia Martinez de Gomez, age 79 Peacefully departed surrounded by her family the morning of March 13, 2019. Originally from Torreon, Coahuilla Mexico and a resident of Hammond, Louisiana for the past 37 years. She was fondly remembered as Mamá Alicia, Ms. Alicia, or Doña Alicia Gomez. A member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and greatest supporter of the Special Olympics and St Jude Children’s Hospital. She is remembered by many children as the lady who always greeted them with a hug and gifted them with a piece of candy after every mass. She was an incredible woman with a big heart, and she always placed her family first.

Survivors include her spouse of 53 years, Luis Gomez; Daughter Veronica Gomez Holt and husband Russell G Holt Jr; Son Luis Gomez Jr and wife Carolina Gomez. Siblings Hortencia Gomez; Jaime Martinez; Maria de Los Angeles Martinez viuda de Lavenant; Maria del Carmen Martinez; and Marta Martinez. Grandchildren Mark Russell Holt; Raymond Louis Holt; Daniel Roy Holt; Luis Gerardo Gomez and Carolina Nichole Gomez. Numerous nieces and nephews. Hundreds of Godchildren residing in California, Texas, Louisiana, Mexico and the furthest in Australia. A special thanks is given to Lucy Gomez, her youngest California Godchild who flew from Australia to pay a special tribute at her bedside.

She is preceded in death by her parents Andres Martinez and Carmen Marquez de Martinez; and brothers Juan Martinez and Andres Martinez. Brothers-in-law Porfirio Gomez and Antonio Lavenant. And in-laws Felix Gomez and Lucia Lopez Gomez.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. Visitation will resume at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Saturday, March 16, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass at 12:00 p.m. Father Robert Merced will officiate the service.
