A.J. Roig, Jr.

A.J. went to be with the Angels on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. He was blessed to pass in peace surrounded by his dear loved ones at his bedside. A.J.’s journey began February 6, 1951 on Mardi Gras day in New Orleans, LA. A.J. was a devoted husband to the love of his life Debbi, for 48 years and a loving father to his precious Son Chad Ashton. This gentle, loving, caring and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be missed by all. He was proud and honored to be the Patriarch, Father, Grandfather and “UNK” to his family. He has been a major presence in the lives of his Grandkids and loved nothing more than watching the boys play sports, and the girls in their dance competitions and bragging on how great they were to anyone who would listen. He was always supporting them as their number 1 fan. A.J. loved animals and especially his latest rescue dogs, Chloe and Katie (better known as his “girls.”) If you had the pleasure of knowing A.J., you quickly learned that he was a special man. He was a man of integrity, a man with a huge contagious smile, and a man with heart of gold that blessed anyone he encountered. One of his greatest accomplishments in life was his ability to share his amazing testimony on his miraculous healing from terminal cancer in 2003. Although we would have loved many more years with him, we are grateful for the Lord’s healing and blessing his family and friends with two more decades before calling him home. When not working or fighting cancer, A.J. spent his free time playing golf. Golf with his friends brought him great joy that he cherished dearly. We have comfort knowing A.J. is now playing golf on the greenest of greens, high on that glorious mountain, hitting his longest drives. He was the owner and operator of Fix a Dent. A.J. also served in the United States Air Force from 1969 and was Honorably Discharged in 1975. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A.J. is survived by his beloved wife Debbi Roig of Springfield; Son, Chad Ashton and wife Shana of Madisonville, LA; grandchildren Chad, Hunter, Ally, and Maggy; A.J. also took on the role as Father to his Nephew, Gary; Nieces, April and Natalina. Their children, Krista (Curtis, Sophie, Alli) God Child Brianne, Lil Gary, Taylor, Wintress, Cy (August Grey) Joss and Saxton. He is also survived by his Sister, Debra Orillion.

He was preceded in death by his loving Parents, Louis and Rosalie Orillion; father, Authur J Roig; adoring Grandparents, James and Anita Datri

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. until the Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at 4:00 p.m. officiated by Father Jamin David and interment will follow in the church cemetery. A Reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Tulane Medical Center and Bone Marrow Unit; Richard Murphy Hospice House; New Century Hospice; Sister Dulce Cypress Springs Mercedarian Prayer Center; St. Margaret Catholic Church; and Brandon Thompson Funeral Home for their care of Mr. Roig.
