Dr Randall Webb, President of Northwestern State University presented Mindy Rhodus Brown, a 1st grade teacher at Chesbrough Elementary School in Kentwood, with her sister's Bachelor's degree posthumously. Her sister Marrissia Phillips Goodwin, who recently passed, was a resident of Kentwood.

Reader Karolyn Harrell, who submitted these photos to ActionNews17.com, said that she was a former teacher of the deceased woman, and that, "I was honored to be there to watch NSU honor her memory this way."

Harrell said the winter commencement also marked the final graduation class for Dr. Webb, who is retiring as the longest serving University president in Louisiana history.

"What an immense honor it was that he chose to recognize Marrissia and her family by presenting them with her degree, and he gave an incredible speech about her life and her legacy," Harrell said.
