Press Release from Louisiana State Police:

WALKER---Shortly before 4:00 pm on August 17, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle on LA Hwy 1024 (Cane Market Rd.) east of LA Hwy 449 (North Corbin Rd.) in Livingston Parish.

The crash took the life of 55-year-old James Evans of Walker.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Evans was traveling westbound on LA Hwy 1024 on a 2018 Harley Davidson Deluxe. At the same time, a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on LA Hwy 1024. For reasons still under investigation, Evans crossed the centerline into the opposing lane, which resulted in the Harley Davidson striking the Chevrolet head-on.

Despite the fact that he was wearing a DOT approved helmet, Evans sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Impairment on the part of Evans is unknown at this time, but a toxicology sample was taken from him for analysis. All other parties were properly restrained and not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet was given a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information at this time.
