HAMMOND, LA - December 5, 2018 - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the following arrest:

On November 28, 2018, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Office Criminal Investigations Division's Detectives developed credible information into the identities of the subjects responsible for the series of auto burglaries reported in the areas of Wardline Road, Milton Road and Bear Lane . Detectives identified Alejandro "Alex" Perez, 17, of Hammond, and one juvenile, 16, of Hammond, as suspects.

Detective Travis Pitman in the attempt to locate Perez developed information through a confidential source Perez was in the area of Coleman Park Road in the trailer park. In the early hours of November 28, 2018, while Detective Pitman was entering the trailer park, he observed and made contact with Perez. Perez was subsequently detained and found to be in possession of illegal narcotics. Perez was taken into custody. Perez later confessed to the series of auto burglaries, identified the location he stashed the stolen property and identified his 16-year-old accomplice. As a result, the juvenile was later located taken into custody.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office encourages residents to always lock your car doors to prevent thieves from accessing the interior of your vehicle. In all reported burglaries in this investigation, the car doors were left unsecured.
