From Hammond Police:
February 5, 2019, City of Hammond, LA – On January 31, 2019, the Hammond Police Narcotics Division, assisted by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division, the HPD Street Crimes Unit and the Department of Homeland Security, executed a narcotics search warrant on Silman Drive. The warrant was the result of several weeks of investigating various reports that the residence was being used as a marijuana grow house.

After entering the residence, agents found more than just a grow house. Agents quickly recognized the residence had been converted into an elaborate butane honey oil (BHO) lab. The BHO lab was active and in various stages of growing marijuana and processing cannabis.

In a BHO lab, suspects extract high levels of THC from marijuana and convert it into concentrated cannabis, using highly combustible solvents such as butane, propane and ethanol in a pressurized system. This process poses a high risk of explosion if solvent fumes come in contact with an ignition source. All of these combustible solvents were present at the residence in large quantities. Due to the potential danger to the community, the Hammond Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The house garage had been converted to hold an extensive hydroponic growing set-up for marijuana plants in different stages of growth. The set-up included special lighting and watering systems, along with a large dehumidifier and ventilation system.

Agents seized approximately 135 marijuana plants, 30 pounds of marijuana, and several pounds of THC oils and wax, with a total street value of $330,000. Also seized was approximately $200,000 in materials and equipment.
