Tangi Academy Will Close Friday Due to Increased Flu-like Symptoms and Confirmed Cases

Hammond, LA: Tangi Academy will close for one day preceding the Mardi Gras break due to increased illnesses among students and staff members that occurred Thursday, February 28, 2019. With almost 100 students absent, there were multiple students that were checked out because of high fever, vomiting, stomach pains, headaches and body aches.

Parents were notified February 8th and again this week with a letter from the Principal detailing precautions that families could take to deter to illness. With increased measures implemented on campus daily, it just wasn’t enough. Many parents and guardians have confirmed that their children do indeed have the Flu virus.

In an effort to keep more students and staff members from contracting the illness, it was decided today among more students getting sick to close school tomorrow.

The Superintendent has confirmed with the contracted custodial company that they will be coming in tomorrow, Friday, March 1, 2019, to do a very thorough and deep cleaning of all areas on campus. We are hopeful that all students and staff members affected will recover very soon.
