Suspects, Who Stole Military Veteran’s Motorized Scooter and Cell Phone, Identified and are Wanted

Slidell Police have identified and issued arrest warrants for 48-year-old, William Roger Vaughter III, and 56-year-old, Karen Chetta Vaughter, for felony “Theft Over $1000” for stealing a military veteran’s motorized scooter and Apple iPhone.

Slidell Police received multiple tips after releasing surveillance video of the suspects, yesterday afternoon. The Vaughter’s have been in contact with investigators, and were supposed to turn themselves in this afternoon. As of 5:30 p.m., the suspects have yet to surrender to authorities.

The 75-year-old victim went shopping at Walmart (39142 Natchez Drive) on November 15th around 5:00 p.m., and inadvertently left behind his cell phone and motorized scooter in the parking lot. After returning home, the military veteran realized he left his belongings in the parking lot and quickly returned to the store. It was discovered shortly thereafter that someone had stolen both his scooter and cell phone.

After obtaining the surveillance video from the store, it was discovered that a male and female spotted the scooter in the parking lot, and initially did the right thing. The man and woman brought the scooter inside of the store and dropped the property off at the customer service department. The couple shopped, purchased several items, and left the store.

In a strange turn of events, the couple returned and decided to steal the scooter and cell phone. The duo was observed on the surveillance footage leaving the store with the scooter, and loading it into the back their vehicle. Slidell Police investigators are now asking for the public’s assistance with identifying the two suspects.
