Suspect charged in armed robbery at fast food restaurant

January 8, 2019, City of Hammond, LA – On January 7, 2019 at approximately 9:15 pm, the Hammond Police Department responded to an armed robbery in progress at Church’s Chicken on Southwest Railroad Avenue.

The suspect entered the restaurant, pointed his gun, and demanded money from the register and safe. He then fled the scene on foot heading west bound to the rear of the restaurant’s parking lot. Knowing the suspect was confined to a small area, HPD quickly set up a perimeter. Officers requested assistance including HPD and TPSO K-9 units and U.S. Customs air support. The suspect was located and officers were able to arrest Xaiver Muse, 27, of Hammond, without incident. Officers recovered a 9mm handgun, two stolen cell phones and $1,205 in cash stolen from the restaurant.
