School Board sets salary and qualifications for superintendent

AMITE---The next Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent will be an educator who has moved up the ranks to a Central Office or supervisor position and will receive approximately $152,000 in base salary.

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board, meeting as a whole on Monday night as their "Superintendent Search Committee," voted to set the salary for the next School Superintendent at the "state average" of $152,000 plus benefits and outlined a series of prerequisites calling for an educator with "five years administrative or management experience" at a "level of Central Office supervisor or above" to apply for the job.

These, along with a series of other search-related details, were approved in most cases unanimously by the committee-of-the-whole but must first be ratified at the Board's official business meeting next Tuesday, March 19.

Monday's meeting focused on a number of search-related plans leading up to the June selection of the new superintendent. In addition to posting the job vacancy, the board will have their consultants host approximately two dozen community meetings with constituents, teachers, and other stakeholders to hear their thoughts on what characteristics the next Superintendent should have. The board will also advertise the post in a variety of education-focused job outlets and publications as well as online through the school system, various education associations, and on social media.
