HAMMOND---A portion of the “ring road” by the former Sears site at Hammond Square will be closed next week as crews begin tying in sewer lines for two new structures that will house at least four new tenants at the state’s second largest open-air shopping center.

City officials announced Friday that the portion of the ring road where the old Sears store stood will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, July 22, and continuing through Friday, July 26. Crews are working on a sewer “tie in” at that location. The closure area runs along Fagan Drive from Magnolia Street to Hammond Square Drive.

The area in question is expected to be the home for a new build-out at Hammond Square, where three new tenants are planning stores for this time next year.

Michaels, HomeGoods, and Five Below will move into a soon-to-be constructed multi-tenant building on the portion of Hammond Square that was formerly home to Sears and Rite Aid. Michaels will lease 21,000 square feet; HomeGoods will lease 22,000 square feet, and Five Below will occupy 8,300 square feet, according to information provided by Stiriling Properties, the commercial real estate company that redeveloped and manages Hammond Square.

A 15,000-square-foot PetSmart will be located adjacent to Hibbett Sports in a new outparcel of the shopping center. That new outparcel will include 6,000 square feet of additional space that will be available for a future retailer or restaurant site.

The new build-outs are expected to be completed in the spring 2020, with stores opening later that summer.

In addition to these improvements, Hammond Square will soon welcome Poke' City. The eatery will feature Hawaiian-style poke’, a classic dish described as a “quick, filling snack food seen more as comfort food than a full meal.” The restaurant promises “amazingly delicious, healthy meals served in a bowl, roll or salad” featuring cuts of seafood, chicken, veggies, and lettuces.

The new Poke’ City is expected to open next month at Hammond Square.
