A 52-year-old Mandeville man was struck and killed as he was walking on East Causeway Approach near the intersection of Kleber Street.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston has identified the man killed at around 10:00 Tuesday morning as Gregory Discon..

From Mandeville Police:

Further investigation has revealed that our victim, Gregory Discon had just been involved in a single vehicle accident immediately before the fatality that claimed his life.

In that incident, a dog reportedly ran out in front of him causing him to strike the raised median and a street sign near the same location.  His car was towed due to damage.

MPD worked that accident and cleared the scene. A family member,  Scott Discon, driving a 2012 silver Mercedes, 2 door, arrived to pick up the victim. The victim was in front passenger seat of silver Mercedes but after pulling off, the victim realized he left personal effects on top of car which blew off, into the street.

The silver Mercedes stopped in the right westbound lane of East Causeway. The victim got out and proceeded to the rear of the car and began gathering his belongings in the lane of travel. The white 2014 Mercedes came from behind and struck the victim and the silver Mercedes in the rear, killing the victim instantly.

Our investigators are still actively investigating this matter and have not ruled out any charges. All involved parties were tested for impairment with those results pending.
