From Denham Springs Police:
On the evening of Mon., Dec. 4th, 2017, DSPD detectives and members of the LSP fugitive Task Force arrested Michael Mitchell for one count of Attempted Armed Robbery at Olive Garden at 6911 Siegen Lane, Baton Rouge. Earlier in the day, the female victim met Mitchell at Chase Bank (1440 S. Range Ave., Denham Springs) to conduct the sale of a video game console, which was brokered through a social media website. Once at the bank parking lot, Mitchell inspected the game before producing a handgun and pressing it to the victim’s side. The victim resisted and screamed, which alerted a DSPD officer who was inside of the bank investigating an unrelated situation. Mitchell then fled Southbound on S. Range Ave. in a 2015 Ford Focus at a high rate of speed and was unable to be immediately apprehended. Witnesses were able to provide officers with the license plate number of Mitchell’s car and the victim provided his cellular telephone number and social media profile. Mitchell also entered Chase Bank prior to the robbery, where he was captured on video surveillance. Mitchell is currently being held in the Livingston Parish Detention Center with a $100,000 bond.

While DSPD is certainly pleased that no one was injured during this incident, we urge people to use common sense in conducting private party sales with unknown persons. We would also like the public to be aware that DSPD has created a Safe Transaction Zone at police headquarters (447 Lamm St.), which is manned around the clock and monitored and recorded by surveillance video.
