HAMMOND, La. – The Southeastern Louisiana women’s soccer team received United Soccer Coaches Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Silver Award for the 2018 season.

The Lady Lions (7-7-4, 4-4-3 in the Southland) received just four yellow cards which was the fewest in the Southland Conference. SLU was one of 11 Division-I programs to receive the award including Air Force, Bryant, Florida Atlantic, Hofstra, Maine, South Carolina, Nicholls, Texas A&M, Texas State and Winthrop.

“We pride ourselves in being ethical and playing with sportsmanship regardless of the result,” said second-year SLU women’s soccer head coach Chris McBride. “It’s nice to see these young women being awarded for their sportsmanship and ethical play throughout the whole season.”

The award puts a stamp on the remarkable 2018 season the Lady Lions had. Under McBride, SLU returned to the Southland Conference Tournament, had three players named to the All-Southland Conference team (Sofia Olsson, Claire Huston and Megan Gordon), had two players named Southland Conference Player of the Week (Christina Cutura and Tilly Hallas-Potts) and had 13 earn a 3.5 GPA or higher in the fall.

A total of 104 men's and women's collegiate programs received the award that is given out at four levels. Teams honored at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on a percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team's total number of games played.
