AMITE—Expect detours if you’ll be traveling around the 100 block of W. Oak Street today (Thursday, May 26) as "Hollywood South” returns to Amite to film scenes for a major motion picture.

The intersection of LA 16 at US 51 will close at 6 a.m. and remain closed until at least 8 p.m. today only as crews film scenes for a movie identified as “Juarez.”

Signs around town point to the motion picture’s presence, as crews are directed to stage areas and local store fronts don faux signage to transform Amite into a fictional world.

Along with that “movie magic” signage, barricades were waiting to be staged late Wednesday afternoon, as detours will keep motorists and other traffic away from the film area much of Thursday. Motorists can expect to be re-routed around that 100 block of West Oak from all four corners, and delays are likely.

Charlie Brown, a location scout with the film, said crews also filmed in Husser on Wednesday and are scheduled to shoot a daytime scene at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond on Friday. Traffic along College Drive/Western Avenue may be impacted during Friday’s filming as well, Brown noted.

While local contacts were tight-lipped about the film, which is being produced for 20th Century Fox, both regional and business press suggests “Juarez” is actually a shooting title for the third installment of the popular Wolverine movies starring Hugh Jackman. Backstage.com, an online platform used by actors and performers to search for casting calls and auditions, refers to Juarez as Wolverine 3 and indicates the “film will be based on the ‘Old Man Logan’ story arc from the (Marvel) comics, which is set 50 years in the future and … sees a happily married Wolverine pressed back into service.”

This is not the first time Amite has been showcased in the movies. In recent years, several films have been shot in and around Amite and the Tangipahoa area, including big box-office draws like “Two Guns” which was also filmed in downtown Amite back in 2012.

"Wolverine 3" is projected for a March 2017 release.
