From Louisiana State Police:
ALBANY---Shortly before 10:30 pm on January 23, 2019, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a serious injury crash involving a motorcycle on LA Hwy 1063 north of LA Hwy 442 in Livingston Parish. The crash ultimately resulted in the death of 42-year-old Joseph Tarver of Independence.

The preliminary investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Tarver was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 1063 on a 2000 Yamaha V-Star. For reasons still under investigation, Tarver failed to negotiate a curve and lost control of his motorcycle. Tarver and the motorcycle slid across the northbound and southbound lanes of travel and exited the roadway to the left. After exiting the roadway, Tarver and the motorcycle entered a ditch.

Despite the fact that he was wearing a DOT approved helmet, Tarver sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported from the scene to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond for treatment.

On January 25, 2019, Troop A was notified that Tarver succumbed to his injuries. Impairment is suspected, and a toxicology sample was obtained from him and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
