AMITE---On Tuesday night, the Tangipahoa Parish School Board voted unanimously to name Tom Tolar as their 2020 President and Robin Abrams as their incoming Vice-President.
Tolar is the District B representative who serves an area from the state line and moving east across the Tangipahoa River and then south to Loranger. He is currently completing his third year on the board and has served as Vice President of the Board for the 2019 calendar year.
Abrams is the District C representative, serving an area that includes portions of Amite, Loranger, and Independence. A newcomer on the board, Abrams has been a vocal advocate for her mid-parish schools, including most recently her efforts to help her alma mater, Independence High, restore the Tiger football field in time for the team to play on their home turf this season.
The new leaders will take their posts in January. The board voted on the new officers a few weeks early so they could “hit the ground running” and get committee assignments in place before the start of the new year, Tolar said.
