COVINGTON (October 18, 2019) – Downtown Ponchatoula and five of its restaurants will be the venue for the eighth annual “Cruising, Strolling & Tasting For St. Jude,” a fundraiser to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, on Saturday, November 16, announced event organizer, volunteer Lisa Marie Lucidi, a Covington hair salon owner.
Participants “stroll or cruise” from one restaurant to the next, “tasting” a sampling of one or two of the restaurant’s most interesting dishes, along with drink specials at an additional charge. Live music at the final stop is being provided by John Autin: “the New Orleans Piano Man,” beginning at 3 p.m.
Ristorante Foodies, Berrytown Corner Café, Le Fleur De Lis Reception Hall & Louisiana Catering Co., Stray Cats, and Roux and Brew are the participating restaurants who are donating their dishes to the cause. Tickets to Cruising, Strolling & Tasting For St. Jude are $40 per person or $75 per couple, if pre-registering online through November 15; $45 per person at the door.
“This will be our first time holding our fundraiser in Ponchatoula,” said Lucidi, who has coordinated volunteer fundraisers for St. Jude’s for over 26 years. “Everyone has been so supportive.”
Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at Ristorante Foodies, 129 E. Pine St., dining from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; moves on to Berrytown Corner Café, 100 W. Pine St., from 12 to 1:30 p.m.; followed by a third stop at the Fleur De Lis, 111 N. 6th St., from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; the fourth stop at Stray Cats, 138 N. 6th St., from 2 to 3:30 p.m.; and the final stop at Roux and Brew Seafood Steakhouse, 135 SW Railroad Avenue from 3 to 5 p.m. At each stop, participants will pick a playing card and try the sampling the restaurant has prepared.
According to Lucidi the menu includes: Apertivo Della Casa (Ristorante Foodies); House Chicken Salad and Shrimp-Corn-Potato Soup (Berrytown Corner Café); Buttermilk Fried Catfish and Crawfish Mornay (Le Fleur De Lis); Spicy Sausage and Chicken Rotini Pastalaya and Sausage and Chicken Sauce Piquant (Stray Cats) and Pork Tenderloin with Port Wine Sauce and Blackened Chicken Pasta (Roux and Brew). Each restaurant is also offering drink specials at a low, additional charge.
Once participants have obtained five certified entries at the different locations on their score cards, at the final stop they’ll participate in a raffle or place a bid on various auction items. Participants with the top three poker hands will win prizes.
This year’s event sponsors are Hancock Whitney Bank, McGinity Law Firm, Dr. Robert Burris, John Autin, and Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce in addition to the five participating restaurants.
“St. Jude ensures that no child in need is turned away because they don’t have the money to pay for cancer treatment,” said Lucidi. “One hundred percent of the proceeds will go towards St. Jude to assist them in finding new treatments for childhood cancer and other catastrophic diseases.”
Volunteers and items for the silent auction/raffle/prizes are especially needed. Transportation to and from each stop is not provided, and designated drivers are recommended if drinking. To pre-register and for more information go to www.cruisestjude.org or you may call Lucidi, at 985-869-1915.
