Kentwood celebrates Parish's 150th Birthday this weekend
The Town of Kentwood will celebrate Tangipahoa Parish’s 150th anniversary in a two-day event starting this Friday.

Organizers say the festivities will begin with a proclamation ceremony scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14, at the Kentwood Community Center, located at 302 Ave. F in Kentwood.

Proclamations will honor Kentwood’s founder, Amos Kent; Tangipahoa Parish Training School’s first director, O.W. Dillon; and parade grand marshal Dr. Carlton Faller.

Historic photographs featuring images of north Tangipahoa Parish will be on display. Light refreshments will be served, and admission is free and open to the public.

On Saturday, June 15, a day-long celebration will begin with a parade through town starting at 10 a.m. After the parade, a barbecue ribs cook-off will be held on Main Street. Entertainers DeLynn Basso, Austin Stafford, and Richard Ryan will be on hand.

Activities for children will be available, and food and craft vendors will be on site.

For more information, check out the Kentwood Rotary Club’s Facebook page for applications and details on how to participate in this celebration.
