The final two seats on the Tangipahoa Parish Council were filled Saturday night with the election of John Gary Ingraffia and Brigette Delatte Hyde to the 10-member board.
Ingraffia was elected to Council District 2 with a nearly 700 vote lead over opponent Greg Varnado. Ingraffia had 2,601 votes (58 percent) to Varnado’s 42 percent.
Ingraffia is a first-time candidate. He was labeled as the “dark horse” favorite in the primary, and after Saturday’s victory, his family and supporters on chanted and cheered “Who Dat,” a nickname he was given on social media after his amazing first place finish in the primary’s field of four.
Hyde outpaced her opponent Glenn Dale Bridges by almost 800 votes in Saturday’s run-off. Hyde earned 2,502 votes (59 percent) to Bridges’ 1,731.
Hyde will assume the seat currently held by outgoing councilman Harry Lavine, who opted not to run for re-election due to health issues.
The newly-elected council will begin their terms of service in January.
