Press Release from Louisiana State Police:

SLIDELL---On Friday August 23, 2019 at approximately 8:45 PM, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a two vehicle serious injury crash on Interstate 10 near Oak Harbor Blvd. in St. Tammany Parish. Troopers are withholding the name of the injured occupant pending positive identification.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as 33-year-old Lee Johnson of New Orleans was driving a 2009 Infinity M35 eastbound on Interstate 10 in the center lane. Due to several preexisting mechanical issues, Johnson’s vehicle rapidly decreased speed. Johnson’s rapid deceleration led to his vehicle being struck in the rear by a 1999 Peterbilt tractor towing a tanker trailer. The impact pushed Johnson’s vehicle into the center median. The Peterbilt came to a controlled stop on the left shoulder.

Johnson sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital. He displayed obvious signs of impairment by a narcotic, specifically heroin. Blood and urine samples were obtained for analysis. Johnson was arrested and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail for Careless Operation, Improper Equipment, No Driver’s License, DWI First Offense, Vehicular Injury in the First Degree, and Fugitive Warrants. The rear seat passenger in Johnson’s vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. The front seat passenger sustained minor injury in the crash. Both occupants were transported to University Medical Center. The driver of the Peterbilt was uninjured. He showed no signs of impairment and supplied investigating Troopers with a voluntary breath sample, which showed no amount of alcohol present.
