Livingston Sheriff Jason Ard urges vigilance on school safety
From Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard

As a father & your Sheriff, I’d like to address something here...
Following the recent school shooting in Florida, law enforcement agencies - including ours - have received copycat threats.

As a father, I understand the need to ‘act’ when you hear something suspicious or ‘out of line’ or maybe you see something on social media that you feel may threaten the safety of your children.

Before you post this or just hit ‘share’, PLEASE assess this information carefully. If you feel this is a credible threat, contact the Sheriff’s Office. Sharing information that you happen to come across - that has not been vetted - is dangerous. It causes chaos & panic. And, this could inundate our available resources. So, I’m asking you to please NOT share false information!

Let us do our jobs of ‘serving & protecting’ you. Those who make threats - empty threats or not - can face charges. And, believe me, I’ll examine each case. I have open communication with our Livingston Parish leaders - including those in our school system.

I’m asking that you work with us in this instance so that should a real threat present itself, we have the resources ‘at the ready’.
Anyone with a tip is encouraged to call us at 225-686-2241 x1 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
