Heightened security after B.B. gun found at St. Helena school
From the St. Helena Parish School District:
This morning, we placed St. Helena College & Career Academy (SHCCA) on lockdown as we investigated an incident where a student was suspected of having a firearm on campus.

The school administrators immediately notified authorities who arrived on site within three minutes.

The student brought a B.B. gun to school and it is now in the possession of authorities. Law enforcement officials are still searching for the suspect who fled the scene.

Central Office staff and school administrators, with the assistance of the Greensburg Police Department and the St. Helena Sheriff’s Office, conducted a school-wide search to ensure the campus was secure. All school bags were checked as well.

Two phone messages were sent out notifying parents of the situation. If you did not receive the calls, please contact the school to update your contact information.

We will continue the school day as normal, but with heightened security.

*Editor's Note: St. Helena College & Career Academy is the 7th-12th grade school for students in the St. Helena Parish public school system.
