2016 South Tangi Relay fundraiser cancelled due to flood
HAMMOND---The South Tangipahoa Relay for Life Board of Directors recently made a joint decision to cancel the 21st annual fundraiser due to the devastation of recent floods in Hammond and surrounding areas.

“This has been a very difficult time for so many, and as a board we did not feel that we could move forward with the event this year,” said Paula Singer, President of the Board of Directors. “After seeing so many of our friends, family and community suffer from the damaging floods and receiving input from some of our teams, we thought it was best.”

With many changes slated for the relay scheduled Oct. 15, the committee planned to revive the event to attract more participants and awareness for the cause.

“Our goal for Relay 2016 was to rejuvenate our event and we have worked very hard in trying to reach that goal,” said Singer. “However, with so much devastation around us, we did not want to take anything away from those affected by the floods.”

The board will move forward with all changes for the next relay which will take place in 2017. All proceeds generated will benefit patients in South Tangipahoa and further research on cures to end all types of cancer. Donations will be accepted throughout the end of the year.

“Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all the families and businesses that were victims of the flooding,” said Singer. “We are here to offer any assistance that we can, and we are looking forward to an exciting and new 2017 Relay.”

Donations may be delivered to Singer at Life Care Medical in Hammond. The business is open Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. and located at 42014 Veterans Avenue.  For more information, visit relayforlife.org/hammondla or contact Singer at (985) 320-4124.
