Government building named in memory of Gordon A. Burgess
AMITE---Before a large crowd of family, friends, and former employees, Tangipahoa's first Parish President Gordon A. Burgess was posthumously honored with a building renamed in his memory Tuesday.
Burgess died in July following a brief illness. He had served as Tangipahoa Parish President for almost 30 years before his retirement in January 2016.
Former First Lady Margaret Burgess and members of the Burgess family were on hand Tuesday as parish officials unveiled the newly-named "Gordon A. Burgess Governmental Building" at the structure, formerly called the "Courthouse annex," located at 206 E. Mulberry Street.
Sen. Ben Nevers, a longtime friend of the late parish president, offered an emotional message at Tuesday's dedication ceremony.
