Kiwanis celebrates local law enforcement heroes
From the Denham Springs Kiwanis Club:
Our 46th annual ‘Peace Officer of the Year’ luncheon was simply amazing!

Our goal is to highlight the work of the law enforcement officers in our area & to support their families. Every year, we learn of these extraordinary people who wear the badge proudly, who work to ‘protect & serve’ & who sacrifice — for each & everyone of us! Thank you!

Here’s a look at who was honored & why:
Detective Jeff Beatty of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office:
Financial crimes - specifically, contractor fraud – became a major issue in Livingston Parish following the historic flood of August 2016. Detective Beatty was chosen to take the lead in investigating contractor fraud complaints. Since the flood of August 2016, Detective Beatty has been assigned 1,187 reports and has recovered $521,347.46 in property. In 2018 alone, Detective Beatty was assigned 464 reports, made 72 arrests and issued 36 active warrants. During one of these investigations, LPSO was able to seize just over $600,000 in cash. Detective Beatty is also assigned to the Secret Service Task Force where he has handled several high profile cases (gas pump credit card skimmers) which resulted in federal court indictments/convictions. In addition to his work in Financial Crimes, Detective Beatty was lead on two homicide cases and worked crime scene on several others.

Trooper First Class William Brady Cook of Louisiana State Police:
TFC Cook has been with the Louisiana State Police for 5 years. During this time he has patrolled Livingston Parish. He has a work ethic that cannot be questioned. He carries himself in a professional manner at all times. In his years at Troop A, Trooper Cook has consistently been a leader on the shift in traffic citations and arrests. In addition to leading the team in DWI arrest, he is also a Crash Reconstructionist. He responds to all fatalities in the Troop A area to assist the investigating trooper and reconstruct the events of the crash. He is also a Taser Instructor which consists of annually training of Troop A troopers in the use of the non-lethal weapon. He represents Troop A at the yearly Legislative Detail at the State Capital. Trooper Cook is also a Field Training Officer which consists of training new troopers after they graduate from the LSP Training Academy. It is here that he has the opportunity to pass on his knowledge and work ethic to the new troopers so the rich tradition of the Louisiana State Police can be carried on into the future.

Officer Jonathan Pizzolato of the Denham Springs Police Department:
Officer Pizzolato is 23-years-old. He is following in his father and his Aunt's footsteps, as both are/were law enforcement officers. His father, Yan Pizzolato, was a Deputy with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office for ten years and his Aunt Jessica Pizzolato is currently still serving as a Detective with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office. Officer Jonathan Pizzolato began his career with the Denham Springs Police Department in October 2017. Prior to coming to the Denham Springs Police Department he worked as a Field Officer with the Louisiana Department of Corrections from October 2014 until May 2015 and then a Deputy Sheriff with the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office from May 2015 until May 2017. He attended the Capital Area Regional Training Academy's Certified Basic Training Course for law enforcement officers, and received his Peace Officer Standards & Training certificate in October of 2016. Although Officer Pizzolato has been around law enforcement most of his life, he has been open and willing to gain the knowledge and experience taught to him by his senior officers. His dependable and hard working nature has gained him the admiration and respect of his peers. In 2018, Officer Pizzolato made 158 arrests with the Denham Springs Police Department, including many drug-related arrests which resulted in the seizure of a substantial amount of illegal narcotics.

Deputy Marshal Leesha Robert of the
Denham Springs City Marshal’s office:
She joined the Marshal’s office in 2017. She is a dedicated professional with over 2 years experience in law enforcement. She has taken the necessary courses to become POST certified. She is currently taking other classes to improve her skills & education. She has a degree in Criminal Justice. She is a member of
Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce & works closely with Seniors & Law Enforcement Together. Everyday, she goes above & beyond the call of duty.

AND...A FIRST-EVER AWARD - the ‘Service Above Self’ award - presented to Cpl. Nick Tullier of Nick Tullier Strong:
July 17, 2016 is a day that will forever be etched in our minds...that is the day Louisiana law enforcement came under attack. In Baton Rouge, those who ‘protect & serve’ were attacked - simply because of the badge they wore so proudly. Three men lost their lives in July of 2016, while three others were shot and survived. Deputy Nick Tullier is one who continues to fight against all odds.
Nick Tullier - a Deputy with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Office - was shot 3 times: in the abdomen, shoulder & head. Doctors told Nick’s family that he was not going to live. But, this tough Deputy from Livingston Parish, recently surpassed 1,000 days fighting for his life. If you follow the ‘Nick Tullier Strong’ Facebook page, you know it has not been an easy 1,000+ days by any means - but, we believe this young man represents the *HEART* of all Law Enforcement - especially those in Livingston Parish!
An amazing young man. An amazing family. An amazing ‘miracle in progress’!! We were proud to present Nick with our first-ever *Service Above Self* award. We were also honored to host Nick’s son - Trent - who accepted on his dad’s behalf...

Congratulations to ALL & thank you for choosing Livingston Parish!

*SPECIAL ADDITION: Officer Levi of Officer Levi's Adventures helped present today’s awards to his role models!
