North Oaks cardiologist tapped to lead AHA board
NEW ORLEANS, July 30, 2020 — Dr. Jherie Ducombs, MD, FACC, was elected to the American Heart Association Southeast Board of Directors. Dr. Ducombs will serve on the board during the association’s 2020-2021 fiscal year. The American Heart Association is the world’s leading voluntary organization dedicated to building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. The American Heart Association Southeast region services Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Puerto Rico.
Dr. Ducombs is a Cardiologist at North Oaks Health System in Hammond, Louisiana, where she serves as assistant chief medical officer and chairman of the Network Operations Council for its multi-specialty physician group.
“The American Heart Association’s dedication to improving the cardiovascular health of all Americans is vitally important work -- even more so today as we struggle across the nation with COVID-19,” said Ducombs. “I am honored to serve as a board member during these critical times for public health improvement and look forward to helping the American Heart Association continue to lead the fight to saves lives from cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
During the upcoming year, Dr. Ducombs will continue to play an instrumental role in guiding efforts to reduce the incidences of heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 5 leading killers, respectively, of American men and women.
Dr. Ducombs is passionate about patient safety and heart disease prevention, which was highlighted when she was chosen as one of 10 2019 “Women in Medicine” honorees by the American Heart Association-Greater New Orleans. The Women in Medicine recognition award is given to 10 local female leaders who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the field of medicine and have made a local impact on health care in New Orleans.
Additionally, she recently served as a representative devoted to reducing the prevalence of heart disease to advance the mission of the Million Hearts® initiative in Louisiana. This collaborative aligned to better meet the goal of preventing a million heart attacks and strokes over the next five years.
