Springfield man faces multiple charges in FEMA trailer fire

LIVINGSTON PARISH (Feb. 9, 2019)- A Springfield man has been arrested for setting fire to a FEMA trailer he had recently been evicted from.

Eddie Smith, 33, was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on Saturday, February 9, on one count each of Simple Arson, Criminal Trespass, Simple Criminal Damage to Property, and Littering.

On the evening of February 3, the Springfield Fire Department responded to a trailer fire located in the 25000 block of Traylor Lane in Springfield.

After assessing the scene, investigators determined the fire was incendiary.

Witnesses reporting seeing Smith damaging equipment and dumping trash around the property just prior to the fire. Witnesses say after hearing an explosion sound and seeing smoke coming from the trailer, they saw Smith driving away from the property.

An arrest warrant for Smith was obtained the following day.

On February 9, Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputies located Smith and took him into custody on the SFM’s outstanding warrants.
