MPD warns of telephone scammers impersonating police officers

From Mandeville Police

The Mandeville Police Department received a complaint this week involving phone calls from the “Mandeville Police Department”.

The caller identified themselves as an officer and instructed the complainant to contact US Legal Support at a separate phone number and pay them what she allegedly owed. The caller stated that the Mandeville Police Department would arrest her on a warrant if these actions were not taken immediately.

The caller requested the payment be placed on an American Express Bluebird card and the card information be transmitted to the caller. This complaint is currently in investigation.

The Mandeville Police Department does NOT contact you via public service and request payment of any kind. If you receive this type of call contact dispatch at #985-626-9711 to file a complaint.

DO NOT send any form of payment via public service in suspicious circumstances as such. Be aware that scammers have the ability to make phone calls on “spoof” phone numbers. Contact MPD if have further questions or concerns.
