From State Fire Marshal Butch Browning

ST. HELENA PARISH--- State Fire Marshal deputies have arrested a Kentwood woman for setting fire to her family’s trailer.

Laura Smith, 37, was booked into the St. Helena Parish Jail on Thursday, May 9, on one count of Simple Arson.
In the afternoon hours of January 23, St. Helena Fire District #6 responded to manufactured home fire located in the 200 block of Happywoods Lane in Kentwood.

Investigators determined the fire started in a bedroom and learned Smith was the only occupant in the home when the fire began.

Three weeks later, during the continued investigation of this case, Smith was arrested for setting two fires in one day at her relatives’ property in Amite. During that arrest, Smith admitted to setting the fire at her home in Kentwood in January.

Smith was recently released on bond from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail for that February arson arrest.

On May 9, Smith turned herself in to authorities in St. Helena Parish for this case.
