Johnson schedules Jones for trial next week in Amite
AMITE—A Hammond man accused of attempted first degree murder of two Hammond Police officers is scheduled to stand trial in Amite next week.

Judge Jeff Johnson set a Sept. 17 trial date for defendant Bobby Jones, 21, of Hammond, who is accused of armed robbery and two counts of attempted first degree murder.

The case stems from an alleged Sept. 13, 2017, armed robbery. Published reports indicate investigators attempted to stop a car that was allegedly involved in that case, but the occupants of the car fled. According to those reports, a suspect was in the process of being arrested when a second suspect allegedly fired shots at the officers.
Jones was arrested a few days later, following a multi-agency investigation.

Jones was in court with his counsel Wednesday when Johnson set the matter for trial next week.
