IPD, Crime Stoppers ask for leads in shooting

INDEPENDENCE---Independence Police and Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa are asking for the public’s help in locating a shooting suspect.

On June 21, shortly before 11 p.m., Independence Police responded to a 9-1-1 call indicating a victim had been shot in the roadway on W. Railroad Avenue.

According to Crime Stoppers, Jarvis Jones, 31, has been identified as the suspect in this case and is wanted for two counts of attempted second degree murder. Authorities say the case stems from a disagreement between the suspect and another individual. The report indicates a third person attempted to “break up the disagreement.”

Investigators say Jones “pulled a handgun and shot several times.” Two men were hit—one in the lower abdomen and the other was struck mid-chest.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa anonymously by either calling 1-800-554-5245 or visiting and click on the P3 Tips icon or “Submit a Tip.”
