Covington Police searching for shooting suspect

On Wednesday, October 9, 2019, at approximately 9:30 pm., the Covington Police Department, with the assistance of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a complaint of a shooting in the area of W. 31st Avenue and N. Van Buren Street.

Upon arrival, officers’ located a victim who suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound. The victim was treated at
a local hospital and has since been released.

The investigation identified the shooting suspect as Skylar Whitney Bedford (black male; DOB 4/28/1985), who fled the scene before the officer’s arrival. Bedford remains at large.

The Covington Police Department currently has arrest warrants for Skylar Whitney Bedford for violation of LRS 14:27/30.1 - Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and LRS 14:95.1 - Possession of Firearm by Person Convicted of Certain Offenses. Bedford has an extensive violent criminal history and is considered armed and dangerous.
