COAST offering meals to St. Tammany seniors
The COAST - Council on Aging St. Tammany will distribute food boxes to St. Tammany residents age 60 and older at four locations throughout the parish beginning Thursday, April 16. Each box contains non-perishable items such as canned meat, juice boxes, cookies, canned fruit and powdered milk. Each box is equal to five meals.
To receive the meals, residents must produce a state issued ID card showing the birthdate. Family or friends may pick up meals for a senior, but must have the ID card or a legible copy of the card in their possession. It is not necessary to be a current client of COAST to receive meals.
COAST has set up a “no-contact” delivery system. Senior will drive to the registration area and place the ID card against the inside glass of the driver’s side window. COAST staff will confirm eligibility and instruct driver to move to the pick-up area. Driver will exit vehicle and walk to a table where he/she will pick up box. Driver will place box in vehicle and drive away. The table will be wiped down and the box for the next driver will be placed on the table.
