Claire Bel Anderson Announces Candidacy for Amite City Town Council for District 3
Claire Anderson Bel, a lifelong resident of Amite and local business owner, announces her candidacy for Amite City Town Council for District 3.
“After much prayer and reflection, I've decided to run for this position because I am committed to Amite, our community, our schools, our children, and all the people of this great town,” Bel said. “I will work hard to show the people of Amite how dedicated I am to serving them on the Council as I campaign this summer and fall.”
Bel is the current owner of Claire’s on Mulberry. After serving in the United States Navy for 4 years, she opened Cabby's Restaurant in 1981 with her late husband, Buddy, who served as Mayor of Amite and previously held seats on the Amite City Council and Tangipahoa Parish School Board.
“As a lifelong resident of Amite, I've been active in our community, including serving as the Chamber President, working as a public school teacher, and owning several successful small businesses,” Bel said. “Now, I want to do everything I can to give back to our town through public service on the Council.”
Claire has also served on the Amite Library Board and remains an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Amite. She has two daughters, Megan and Molly, who were raised in Amite, and two grandchildren, Parker and Caroline. She is the daughter of Frances Anderson and the late Stanley Anderson.
“For many years I supported my husband, Buddy Bel, as we served our town side by side. Now, I want to continue his legacy while using my voice to advocate for the people of Amite. I look forward to meeting all the residents of Council District 3 and humbly ask for their support and their vote this fall,” Bel said.
The election is Tuesday, November 3, 2020.
