Brown water again? Well goes back online Tuesday, Zabbia says

PONCHATOULA---The Athletic Park water well will go back online Tuesday, Oct. 8, after a chlorination malfunction forced city crews to shut it down last Thursday and prompting a “brown water” issue across parts of the city Thursday afternoon.

In a lengthy interview with AN17 on Monday, Zabbia explains what caused the problem, how the city shut down the well, and why this caused a brown water event.

Zabbia also explains that the city has submitted plans to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals to install new water lines from LA 22 to Magnolia Street as well as from South 9th Street to South 7th Street via Oak.

Zabbia says this will “increase the flow of fresh water in the area,” and that this project will get underway before the end of 2019.

“No one wants this issue corrected more than I do,” Zabbia said.

The mayor also talks about plans to perform a “complete unidirectional flush” of all of Ponchatoula’s water lines starting around Oct. 21.
